Second Captains Saturday returns to RTÉ Radio 1 on Saturday 17 July (1-2 pm) and approaches a diverse line-up of fascinating guests in a novel way – by examining the role sport has played in their lives. The show welcomes interviewees from different walks of life to explain how sport has impacted them, good and bad. We’ll hear of touching, funny, and embarrassing sporting experiences before the show’s main feature ‘This Sporting Life’ bestows that most prestigious of titles – The Greatest Non-Sportsperson Sportsperson. However, it’s about far more than just sport. The show’s previous four series on RTÉ Radio 1 have allowed the audience to explore completely new ground with some high-profile interviewees such as Senator George Mitchell, Gabriel Byrne, Clare Balding, Samantha Power and Dermot O’Leary.
