Mick’s plan to hide his swelling backfires and he’s horrified to discover the whole school is talking about the bulge in his trousers. Relief is short lived when he realises everyone isn’t actually talking about his ball – they think the bulge from his swelling is actually an incredibly large penis! Tommy and Conor are thrilled at their best friend’s new ‘legend’ status and think it will bode well for all of them, but Mick is horrified. Especially when he discovers there are more rumours flying around about what happened between him and Rachael on the date. And worse still, Rachael thinks it’s him who’s started the rumours.
With Rachael upset and humiliated and blaming Mick for the whole thing, it looks their relationship is over before it’s even begun. Mick desperately wants to explain to her, but how can he when he can’t tell her the truth about what’s going on with him. With everything going on at school, tensions flare between Mick and his mum, and even his aloof sister Lucy has something to say about the rumours. Mick is sick of being criticised by everyone in his life and doesn’t know what to do. He can’t clear the air with his mum unless he tells her what’s going on. And if he does that then he’ll have to face his problem head on and what if it’s something serious? What if the doctors tell him it’s cancer?
