Sa tsraith stairiúil seo, a craoladh den chéad uair sa bhliain 2006, cloisimid ceolta agus amhráin Árann agus Chonamara mar a thaifead Bairbre Quinn as Árainn iad ó dheireadh na gcaogaidí go dtí na seachtóidí. I measc an phobail a bhí Bairbre ag taifeadadh go neamhspleách lena gléas taifeadta féin, mar sin tá spraoi agus spóirt na ceoltóireachta le brath go láidir ar na téipeanna. Cloistear oileánaigh agus cuairteoirí, sean agus óg, filí agus gasúir scoile, agus caint nádúrtha na ndaoine. Sa chéad chlár seo inniu, insítear scéal an bhailiúcháin i gcuideachta Johnny Mháirtín Learaí Mac Donnchadha, Paddy Quinn, agus Stiophán Ó Conghaile. Is í Deirdre Ní Chonghaile a chuirfidh an clár i láthair.
Today, we hear the first programme in this historic series, first broadcast in 2006, and now rebroadcast as part of the summer schedule. The series is based on a collection of tape recordings made by Bairbre Quinn in the Aran Islands and Connemara from the end of the fifties to the seventies. The recordings feature the music and song of the region, and also the everyday conversation and banter of the community. Bairbre was the first islander to own a tape recorder, and as she made the recordings herself, we hear people who are fully at ease and get a sense of their lives as well in these valuable tapes. Today, the first programme tells the story of the collection, with Johnny Mháirtín Learaí Mac Donnchadha, Paddy Quinn, and Stiophán Ó Conghaile. Deirdre Ní Chonghaile presents the series.
