MONDAY 17TH MAY – WOMEN IN BUSINESS
We meet some businesswomen from around the country and we meet a woman who is a great ambassador for Irish beekeeping in Dublin.
WIX AND WAX CANDLES: We are in the Banner County to meet up with two lifelong friends who have taken a brave step towards following their dream of creating scented and bespoke candles. The business, which started out in one of their kitchens is now operating from a production studio. Clare native, Zainab Boladale, visited these businesswomen in their new space to find out more about how they got started.
MOSTYLE: We are in Dublin to meet Fashion Stylist Máirín Ní Bheacháin who suffered a stroke due to a rare disease and had to learn to read again at the age of 40.
BEE LADY: This is peak season for our pollinators, they are busy bringing in food supplies for their young, but they do nature and us a favour by pollinating our crops, flowers and trees as they go about their business. Recently urban beekeeping has begun to take off and as Niall Martin recently found out, the sky’s the limit!
WEDNESDAY 19TH MAY – DALYMOUNT PARK
Dalymount Park is the home of Bohemians Football Club and is situated in Phibsboro on the Northside of Dublin. Built on common ground in 1901, it has also been the venue for Irish international matches on 82 occasions. We visit Dublin’s Northside to meet some of the community around there for whom Dalymount plays a big role and to find out what’s the future for this beloved stadium. We also hear of those giants of football who played there down through the years.
ARTIST DOROTHY SMITH – MOUNT VENUS: We meet Dubliner, Dorothy Smith, who has spent the last 30 years working as a visual artist. She’s primarily interested in looking at how the artist interacts with urban and social spaces. Most of her work is hand drawn in pen or pencil, and in recent times she has turned her attention to the iconic Dalymount Stadium.
FRIDAY 21ST MAY – ARTISTS PROGRAMME
We are meeting crafts people who’ve been busy working away and creating during the Pandemic.
DEIRDRE DUNNE/REPORT MARY FANNING: We meet artist Deirdre Dunne who works from her studio at the foot of the Galtee mountains in County Cork. She has an eclectic collection of work, inspired by her travels all over the world, the beautiful surrounds where she lives and recently a tapestry of paintings studying people in lockdown. She also, along with her Australian husband, runs a tourism enterprise and all the projects fit neatly into the tapestry that is Deirdre Dunne. Mary Fanning paid a visit to her homestead.
CERAMICS/REPORT ZAINAB BOLADALE: Often, people decide to make career changes in line with a new passion of theirs. A Dublin man who was formerly a chef decided to become a potter upon returning back to Ireland after years of travelling. He now makes and sells ceramics all from his home. Zainab Baladale went to meet him.
HORSE SHOE ART/REPORT NIALL MARTIN: We are in Donegal to meet a man who works with steel & whose art involves Horse shoes. Reporter Niall Martin has the story.
