Shaymo’s House – Minerves

Well known singer/songwriter/journalist/raconteur and all round good guy, Shay Healy, recently sold the house in Sandymount he shared with his late wife Deedee (Dympna) for  35 years. Her presence is everywhere.  To exacerbate matters Shay (74) is living with Parkinsons for the past 14 years, and Deedee was his carer. The name of the house is ‘Minerves’ (pronounced ‘Me Nerves’). Rather than dump in a skip all the baubles, crockery, wooden ducks, bric a brac etc collected over a lifetime, Shay had a ‘garage sale’ in his house with all proceeds going to the Hospice Foundation.  Shaymo took Kevin Reynolds for a bitter-sweet saunter round the grand old house.

Shaymo says

After thirty six years of eventful living, myself and Deedee decided to sell our beloved house “Minerves” at 9 Prince of Wales Terrace Dublin 4.  Sadly, Deedee didn’t live to see it through, but she left a legacy of curiosities, trinkets, lamps, bric-a-brac and enough fairy lights to light a small town such as Monasterevin for Christmas.

Rather than see all this “stuff” languishing in a skip, we are having a “Garage Sale” in the house on Saturday 28th October from 4p.m-10p.m (Who knows after that…bring an instrument). There won’t be fancy prices and as you potter about you can share a glass of wine, meet old friends and recall stellar moments in the life of this grand old house.
