Sa chlár faisnéise seo, scrúdaíonn Damien Ó Dónaill an scéal a bhaineann le druid Scoil Náisiúnta Rann na Feirste i dTír Chonaill caoga bliain ó shin, eachtra a chothaigh scoilt mhór sa phobal ag an am. Dhéanfar scrúdú ar stair na scoile, a bunaíodh in 1869, mar a rinne an rialtas an scoil a dhruid i dtús na seachtóidí, an feachtas a cuireadh ar bun lena hathoscailt, agus mar a d’éirigh leo é sin a bhaint amach sa bhliain 1972. Labharfaidh Damien Ó Dónaill le hiar-scolairí, le príomhoide reatha na scoile, Pól Ó Ruiséil agus cloisfidh muid míreanna luachmhara ó chartlann RTÉ agus Raidió na Gaeltachta le cuid de na daoine a bhí lárnach san fheachtas leis an scoil a fháil oscailte arís i 1972. Láithriú agus léiriú le Damien Ó Dónaill.
In this documentary today, Damien Ó Dónaill examines the history of Rann na Feirste National School in northwest Donegal, which was closed by the government fifty years ago, and then reopened after a successful campaign by the local community. The event was a source of conflict for the tight-knit community there at the time. Today, Damien Ó Dónaill gives us the history of the school, established in 1869, how it was closed by the government, the campaign to reopen, and the school’s importance for the area. He will speak to past pupils, to the current principal Pól Ó Ruiséil, and we’ll hear invaluable archive interviews from some of those who were central to the campaign to reopen the school. Presented and produced by Damien Ó Dónaill.
