EPISODE FOUR:  FOURTH HEAT IN THE FOREST

It’s the fourth and final heat in this episode before the show moves to The Lake next week for the quarter-finals.

So far in the heats Donncha, Anna and Davy have seen one family each into the quarter finals but Derval O’Rourke is still on that winning streak and she has seen three out of three families through.

This week sees Anna Geary competing with the Brackens from County Meath against Davy Fitzgerald’s Kellys from Co. Antrim, Donncha O’Callaghan’s  O’Hallorans from County Clare  and Derval O’Rourke’s Kulczynskis also from County Clare

EVENT ONE: BOG BATH

Bog Bath is a time trial and it is the ultimate test of strength, endurance and family unity. The four family members will mount a log over a plunge pool of mud. The clock starts when the family turns upside down and all 4 family members heads are in line with the log. Each family member must hold on for as long as they can. Once they release their fingers the clock stops and it’s a nice drop down into the mud. The times of all four family members are then added together. The family with the longest time is the winner but remember it’s the family with the shortest time that immediately leaves the competition.

EVENT TWO:

Fast and Furious is  a test of speed, agility and endurance. It’s a head to head 300m relay race jumping over hay bales, a balance beam around a barrel followed by a sprint back to tag in the next member of their team. Once all family members have completed their run all 4 must rerun the length of the course up and down and climb back up into their starting position. The first family standing up on their hay bales wins the race and is straight through to the quarter finals. The remaining two families must compete in the eliminator for the final place in the quarter finals.

THE ELIMINATOR:

The eliminator starts deep in the forest with each of the families jumping off hay bales before collecting a log and  then running through the forest.  They drop the log before facing the cargo net crawl.  Then it’s on to a set of tyre obstacles that will push them to the max.  Then they must sprint 200 metres through a cornfield carrying a second log.   As if that wasn’t enough the ice cold plunge baths await.  Once they are through that they face the Irish table.  Then it’s on to our massive ramp and the family who makes it to the top of the ramp first wins the race making it through to the quarter finals.
