NATIONWIDE WEEK 49

MONDAY 30TH NOVEMBER
On this evening’s Nationwide meets a talented family of singers and also an Irish style icon who this week celebrates her 70th birthday.

Working side by side with your family can sometimes have its challenges but for the Willoughby brothers from County Wicklow, it’s a win-win situation. These brothers are talented singers and have entertained audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.  Helen McInerney recently visited them at their home in the village of Coolboy.

Celia Holman Lee started modelling at the tender age of 15, while still at school, and went on to found Ireland’s longest running model agency.  Marian Malone has been to visit the multi-award-winning style icon and fashion presenter who amazingly, is still modelling, at her County Limerick home, a few days before her 70th birthday.

WEDNESDAY 2ND DECEMBER

Nationwide meets some talented and creative people from around the country including a makeup artist from County Laois who is carving out a very successful career for himself.

Reporter Zainab Boladale meets a Laois man James MacInerney who has found fame in the world of makeup.  He never expected that when he moved to London,  his work would make it onto the big screen and that he himself would be on a popular makeup competition series called ‘Glow Up’.

Nationwide meets a young musician who had to return home due to Covid-19 restrictions and has been streaming performances from her garden shed.  This has allowed her to explore traditional Irish music through another form of music that you may not expect.

While live music performances are on hold for the moment, musicians and songwriters are still writing and recording.  Reporter Niall Martin has been chatting to singer/songwriter Rowlette about what it’s been like to be a performer who can’t perform due to the Covid ban on gatherings.

FRIDAY 4TH DECEMBER

In the Summer of 2020 the World Championship Irish Dancing Competition was cancelled due to Covid 19.  So many young Irish dancers around the world were disappointed.  One particular young girl who was hoping to regain her throne decided to take this time off to continue practicing and training.   Recently Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh headed off to Ballybrack, Co. Dublin to meet World Champion Irish Dancer Niomi Hayes.

As Christmas approaches, this year more than ever, it is so important to support local businesses. Valerie Waters met up with a self-employed crafts woman whose pottery business is relying on people to buy local, either by online purchasing or by click and collect.
