NATIONWIDE WEEK 48

MONDAY 23RD NOVEMBER

Nationwide is in North County Dublin with stories from and about people associated with this part of the capital.

Valerie Waters meets a man who, despite being temporarily laid off work due to Covid 19 has made the most of this strange time. Wildlife photographer Michael Keating takes her around his neighbourhood and shows some of the amazing pictures he takes.

Our next story is of a man who is a painter but a painter with a difference.   Zainab Boladale heads to the Molesworth Gallery in Dublin to meet an artist who has spent over a decade, painting Dublin city streets at night.  It’s a unique subject matter that has now been turned into a career by this local Dublin man.

Despite the fact that it’s the dormant season, work in the garden still goes on. Valerie Waters visits a garden in north county Dublin where willing workers were preparing for Winter in a garden which belongs to a very fortunate community.

TUESDAY 24TH NOVEMBER – WOMEN AVIATORS PROGRAMME
Nationwide tonight features stories of the Irish women who were to the fore in pioneering aviation in the early part of the 20th century. Nationwide hears their stories and meet their descendants and authors of books about their exploits.

WEDNESDAY 25TH NOVEMBER – THE ROLE OF CUMANN NA MBAN IN THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE & THE KILMICHAEL AMBUSH 100 YEARS AGO

A typing clerk who traded intelligence secrets to re-gain custody of her young son; a school girl who was arrested in possession of a machine gun; two demure sisters who ran an IRA intelligence centre from a small newsagent’s shop and an internationally renowned opera singer turned republican are among the women who played dramatic roles in the War of Independence in Cork.   This evening Donal Byrne tells the forgotten stories of these women and looks back at the Kilmichael Ambush in County Cork, which was one of the bloodiest episodes of that War.

FRIDAY 27TH NOVEMBER
