VOX NOSTRA WITH VLAD SMISHKEWYCH

Gautier_de_Coincy Image Name: Gautier_de_Coincy Description: Gautier_de_Coincy

Two of the top ensembles who perform medieval music–Alla Francesca and The Harp Consort–share this morning’s radio stage on Vox Nostra to bring you the music of Gautier de Coincy, a poet and composer who bridged the 12th and 13th centuries and is best remembered for his ‘Miracles de Notre Dame,’ or Miracles of Our Lady. A French trouvère version of the Iberian troubadour monarch Alfonso X ‘El Sabio’, and poetically in the same league as the German Minnesinger Frauenlob, Gautier’s poetry painted a humanising and compassionate picture of Mary, setting scenes from her life to popular music of the day. Vlad provides Baroque French flute music to shake up the sound for our Sunday Sonata, plus he’ll have the usual mix of over a millennium of spectacular music, 7-10am this Sunday morning on Vox Nostra.
