This week on Open For Business, we take a look at the business of Real Estate in Ireland. With Ireland’s commercial property market having experienced what has been dubbed a “lost quarter” as a direct result of Covid-19, what will become of the hundreds of offices, retail units and business premises left vacant since the onset of the pandemic?
We meet Irish print & design company Jill & Gill who are benefitting from a brand new initiative that sees commercial developers with empty retail units offer a space to a small businesses across Ireland. We talk with businesses now reconsidering their office footprint, as a result of COVID-19.
We hear from Shane Ryan of Fiid who, despite expanding his workforce, is waving goodbye to his office space for the foreseeable future. Plus, Real Estate Advisor Mark Synnott will be offering expert advice for employers who may be struggling to hang on to their business premises.
We will also talk to our Reporter Tadhg Enright in London as he focuses on how other countries and international companies are faring in the face of this self-imposed, economic crisis.
Later in the show, we take a closer look at the Construction industry, who were the very first sector to get back to work after the easing of Lockdown restrictions. We see how Health and safety measures are implemented at some of the country’s biggest construction sites and we discuss how recruitment in this industry sector is, in fact, booming to such an extent that recruiters are considering looking abroad for new workers.
