NATIONWIDE WEEK 31
MONDAY 27TH JULY
Nationwide is in County Offaly to explore the tourism offering in this little county in Ireland’s hidden heartlands. From vast boglands to forests, mountains and the mighty Shannon, this county has something to offer every visitor. The show visits the village of Kinnity which is best known for it’s castle and hears about a new series of biking trails which are being developed and we go for a ramble in the Slieve Bloom mountains.
Nationwide also visits Lough Boora Discovery Park, a firm favourite with visitors from near and far and take to the water in Banagher. Plus we visit the ancient Monastic site at Clonmacnoise.
WEDNESDAY 29TH JULY
COASTAL STORIES – PROGRAMME 1
The first of two programmes with stories of coastal life. Nationwide meets people who live along our coast line and we see some of the amazing sights which are visited and explored by tourists all year round including Whale Watching in West Cork, uncovering history in Dalkey and a visit to St John’s Point lighthouse
Anne Cassin travels off the coast of West Cork to see if we can catch a glimpse of some Humpback Whales. She joins Marine Ecologist Padraig Whooley, who has spent the past twenty-five years searching for Whales in Ireland and overseas.
A sign dating from World War two was uncovered and restored following research involving members of the Dalkey Tidy Towns committee. The Eire sign is one of more than 80 built along the coastline to alert pilots to neutral territory. Anne Cassin went along to take a look at the finished project.
