NATIONWIDE WEEK 20
MONDAY 11TH MAY
STORIES FROM THE BACK GARDEN – PROGRAMME 1
This week, Nationwide delves into the archives to see what kind of things people get up to in their back gardens. Whether it’s running a business or cultivating a hobby, people are endlessly resourceful in the use of their private outdoor space. Meet a master craftsman in County Galway who walks a few feet from his house to his workshop in the garden. The programme visits the back garden of singer songwriter Cathey Davey in Co Kildare who cares for sick and neglected horses and donkeys. Nationwide is also in County Waterford to talk to a talented artist, writer and puppet maker in her garden studio and meet a railway enthusiast in his suburban back garden in Co Limerick.
WEDNESDAY 13TH MAY

More of our favourite stories from the archives about back garden hobbies and businesses. This evening Nationwide features a man whose garden shed in Tallaght, Dublin is full of creepy crawlies and reptiles; a couple who have a home made WW1 trench in their back garden in County Wexford and the country singer who breeds greyhounds on his downtime at his home in County Galway. Plus the knitwear workshop in a County Clare garden which is producing knitwear that is exported all over the world.
