The Piano Concerto of the astonishingly talented 16-year-old Clara Schumann, was originally premiered by herself and the Leipzig Gewandhaus conducted by Felix Mendelssohn, came at a time when few outside Leipzig had heard of her future husband, Robert Schumann. Hear it in today’s concert alongside music by Clara’s close friend – Johannes Brahms.
