Baroque Bohemia stirs the imagination with music by composer Frantisek Xaver Dusek, born on this day in 1731. We’ll hear some of his orchestral works on this morning’s Vox Nostra, as well as other delights by composers from this wonderfully varied Central European region that occupies most of what is the modern-day Czech Republic. Exploring the rich musical roots of this land, we’ll get to hear Italian, Flemish and German influences from madrigalists such as Philippus de Monte, instrumental composers such as Zelenka, and Touma, as well as music that heads us into the Christmas season from composers Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber and late Classical composer Jakub Jan Ryba.
