VOX NOSTRA WITH VLAD SMISHKEWYCH

Capilla-Flamenca Image Name: Capilla-Flamenca Description: Capilla-Flamenca

One of the foremost figures of musical patronage, Margaret of Austria is like the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to musical inspiration for performers and scholars alike. On today’s programme, Vlad explores two albums by the ensemble Capilla Flamenca, which are dedicated to the immense love of music of this patroness of the arts. Featured composers on these recordings include many of the usual suspects of the Flemish Renaissance – Senfl, Isaac, Pierre de la Rue, Ockeghem – as well as a few lesser-known names, such as Johannes Heer, Jacques Barbireau, and Hans Buchner. English, French, and Italian music by some of early music’s bright lights–Monteverdi, Weelkes, Jeremiah Clarke, and Andre Campra–rounds off the programme, with a special exploration of the sacred and secular music of the medieval proto-feminist minnesinger, Frauenlob.
