Series 4, Episode 2

Catherine Fulvio travels to Oulart, Co. Wexford to meet Marian Sinnott at Tulach a’tSolais, Oulart Hill which was built to commemorate The Battle of Oulart Hill which took place during the 1798 rebellion.

Marian tells Catherine about her daughter Sarah-Jo, who now lives and works in Boston and is in need of a taste of home. She teaches Catherine how to make her daughter Sarah-Jo’s favourite dish, Chicken Paprika. Catherine then travels to Boston in hope to replicate Marian’s dish and bring a taste like home over to Sarah-Jo.

Catherine visits the iconic Cheers Pub on Beacon Hill, previously known as the Bull & Finch Pub, she gets to experience Oyster Happy Hour in Boston’s Marliave Restaurant, as well as walking the famous grounds of the prestigious Harvard University where Sarah-Jo worked.

She gets a private tour of Fenway Park the oldest Major League Baseball stadium in the world. Along the way, Catherine tastes some of Boston’s finest cuisine when she visits Chef Benjamin Lacy at his restaurant ArtScience Culture Lab & Café plus a market that houses some of Boston’s finest Chef’s under the one roof, “Time Out Market” where she tastes food by Chef Peter Ungár & Chef Michael Schlow. And a trip to Boston isn’t complete without visiting Mike’s Pastry who created the one-of-a-kind cannoli that keeps loyal Bostonians and tourists coming from around the world to enjoy. Catherine meets up with some other Irish who have immigrated to Boston and now work in one of Boston’s oldest boutique hotels “The Lenox Hotel”.

Catherine Fulvio said “I am always surprised by the power that a childhood food memory has for some people especially those who have since moved abroad. “Tastes like Home” has once again allowed me to help to try and make that connection for some of our families now living apart – it can be a humbling and emotional journey, but with great insights into our Irish food traditions and how these memories influence us as person”.

Viewers are also treated to a visit of Tulach a’tSolais, Oulart Hill, Co. Wexford  – “Deep in the pastoral landscape of Ireland’s County Wexford, a shaft of concrete cleaves through a green hill like the entrance to some futuristic burial mound.”
