MONDAY 21ST OCTOBER

On this evening’s show RTÉ Nationwide explores the Shannon/Erne waterway which is celebrating 25 years since it first opened.  The waterway links the two great waterways on the island of Ireland and Anne Cassin begins her journey in Belturbet and hears how the water system is a haven for watersports with many activities on offer, and a great resource to all the communities living around it.

WEDNESDAY 23RD OCTOBER

The second of RTÉ Nationwide programmes looking at Ireland’s inland waterway systems this week comes from County Leitrim with a trip along the River Shannon Blueway.  New additions including Ireland’s first floating boardwalk, an amenity on the final leg of the Shannon Blueway.  Mary Kennedy goes cycling on an electric bike to Battlebridge and meets the owner of a Camping and Glamping site and finds out what difference the Blueway has made to her business.

FRIDAY 25TH OCTOBER

As the 40th Dublin marathon takes place next Sunday with more than 20,000 people running, ten times the number who took part back in 1980. RTÉ’s John Kilraine reports on the race’s history containing many personal stories.

To celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Cycling in Ireland, the Dungarvan Cycling Club organised a celebration to mark this occasion and to honour the man who started it all 150 years ago. Reporter Brian Walsh learns more.

The Healthy Club project is a GAA initiative that aims to help clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members, and the communities they serve. Reporter Marian Malone recently visited Killeagh GAA Club in East Cork, where a healthy philosophy has been integrated into day-to-day activities in a sustainable way.
