Poetry Aloud

Since it was launched in 2006, Poetry Aloud has grown into a national phenomenon, involving around 2000 students in hundreds of second-level schools around the whole island of Ireland. Students stand up in front of judges and audiences and perform poems which they have learned by heart, their performances judged on clarity and their ability to communicate emotion and meaning. As entries open for this year’s competition we revisit the highs and lows of last year’s ‘Poetry Aloud’ and celebrate the joy of speaking and listening to, poetry.
