In the biggest week of the hurling year, RTÉ will broadcast a new one hour episode of The Game featuring unseen footage and interviews filmed over the three years of this landmark production.

From Antrim’s enduring devotion to hurling craft and the county’s journey to the 1989 Senior Final, to Liam Griffin and Wexford’s pioneering use of sports psychology to bring them an All-Ireland in 1996, to one of the great characters of the game – Michael ‘Babs’ Keating – and his impact on Tipperary, who’d spent much of the 1970s and early 1980s in the doldrums.

The programme explores the intensity of All-Ireland Final day; ‘The Big Show’. Told by those who truly know :- players, former players and managers.

We look back at Limerick’s historic victory in 2018 to explore that precious moment of victory… and the differences between winning and losing.

Contributors give frank and heartfelt reflections on retirement, when the music stops and when they return to the stands as supporters.

“My wife, our wedding, it was a great day for us… but nothing compares to running out on All-Ireland Final day for Cork”  – Seán Óg Ó hAilpín.

As the cast observed in the third episode of ‘The Game’, hurling will never end. It just keeps going and perhaps, as Christy Ring once said, the best is yet to come.

And so celebrating a sport that now enjoys protected UNESCO status, this new episode of The Game is broadcast on RTÉ One at 9.35PM on August 13th in the week of the All Ireland Final.

Nine new chapters will feature new interviews, archive footage and untold stories.

‘The Game: The Story of Hurling’ is produced by Crossing the Line Productionsand made in association with RTÉ and with the support of GAA and BAI and produced with the support of incentives for the Irish Film Industry provided by the Government of Ireland.
