Two new releases by acclaimed ensemble Alamire featuring motets of Hieronymus Praetorius, and John Amner’s consort music with Dublin Consort Singers & Fretwork. Praetorius is best known for his setting of ‘In dulci jubilo’, but this new release, the first CD on specialised early music sub-label Inventa Records, is a splendid collection of Motets in 8, 10, 12, 16 & 20-Parts. Ensemble Alamire join forces with renaissance wind ensemble His Majestys Sagbutts & Cornetts for Praetorius’ large vocal works. We’ll also hear Irish organ scholar and choral director Mark Keane with the Dublin Consort Singers in a recently released recording on the Rubicon label, titled ‘Sacred Hymns of 3, 4, 5 and 6 parts for Voyces and Vyols’, featuring the music of composer John Amner, a contemporary of Orlando Gibbons.
