I, Dolours is the award-winning feature documentary directed by Maurice Sweeney, filmed by Kate McCullough and produced by Nuala Cunningham and Ed Moloney for New Decade TV Ltd.

It is a cinematic yet intimate and complex portrait of Dolours Price, militant IRA activist, hunger striker and dissident Republican who two years before she died gave a filmed interview to journalist Ed Moloney on condition that it would not be broadcast in her lifetime.  Now for the first time her story can be told in full and entirely in her own words.

This shocking film brings viewers deep inside the IRA and charts one woman’s journey from passionate idealist into disillusioned cynic.

I, Dolours had its world premiere at the Hot Docs Festival in Toronto in Canada in April 2018, its European premier at the Sheffield Doc/Fest in June 2018 and at the Galway Film Fleadh in July.  It has since gone on to play at the Camerimage Festival in Poland where it won the Golden Frog.  Among others it also played at the Belfast and Derry film festivals in 2018 and screened in the US at the Chicago Irish Film Festival and the Capital Irish Film Festival in Washington DC in March 2019 where it picked up the audience award.

The documentary charts Dolours’ journey from passionate idealist into disillusioned cynic.  It’s an Irish story but also a universal tale of the journey taken by activists throughout time, from idealism to regret to guilt and then anger and has never been more relevant.
