Tel Aviv is the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest Final for 2019. Marty Whelan marks his 21st year presenting the commentary for RTÉ.

Eurovision Song Contest Final 2019, RTÉ One, Saturday, May 18th at 8pm

Bar Refaeli, Erez Tal, Assi Azar and Lucy Ayoub will host the 64th Eurovision Song Contest this May in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Six countries are already through to the final – the Big Five of Spain, the UK, France, Italy and Germany as well as the host Israel – but they will face stiff competition from the remaining countries who battled it out to make it through the semi-final stages. (Hopefully, Ireland will be one of the lucky 26, with Sarah McTernan competing in Thursday’s semi-final.)

The Eurovision Song Contest was established in 1956 and has taken place annually ever since. What started as an experiment, primarily followed by a radio audience, grew to become the world’s longest running and most popular music competition, attracting vieweship figures of almost 200 million people all over Europe and around the world.
