Brand new four-part bi-lingual series My Tribe reveals the underground worlds of some of music’s most defining youth culture movements – the Rockabillies, the Mods, the Skinheads and the Punks. It takes the viewer inside these scenes where music is life, clothing is precise, and attitude is everything. The series delves into the archives to reveal the fascinating origins of these subcultures while also meeting the modern-day members of these tribes to find out what makes them so enduring. This is the definitive story of Ireland’s musical tribes from the 1950s to today, sound-tracked by the essential anthems of these scenes including songs by Bill Haley, The Jam, The Specials and The Undertones.

Episode Two of My Tribe opens the door on the world of the sharp-suited Mods:

Through evocative archive we discover their ‘60s London origins complete with precise tailoring, Italian scooters and American RnB music. Bringing us into this exclusive scene is 14-year-old Liam who couldn’t resist the lure of the music, cool clothes and particular attitude of the Mods. Legendary Cork Mod Irish Jack recalls how this subculture brought him from an aimless boy to an expressive young man who befriended none other than Pete Townshend of The Who. Dubliner Jacqui reveals how this subculture, with its vibrant coloured clothes and soul-driven music, has an aspirational quality that uplifts her life. Sharon from Carlow tells of her ‘Mod Life Crisis’, having returned to this bustling scene after years away from it. Galwegian Paul describes the enduring link between the Mods and the little-known Northern Soul scene, where people dance all night to rare soul records on original vinyl.
