Monday 25th March, 7.00pm, RTÉ One

Tonight on Nationwide, reporter Mary Fanning meets the former leader of the Green Party, Trevor Sargent, who took a giant leap of faith and was ordained a Church of Ireland minister last year.  He is now a busy curate in Waterford and for him there are many similarities between his life now, and as a politician. Mary goes Tramore in County Waterford to find out more.

The programme also features a photographer who chose his father as the subject for his final project in a course at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. Reporter Valerie Waters  goes to have a look at the photographs in the city centre and also meets the father and son involved,  both of whom are creative people in their own right.

Wednesday 27th March, 7.00pm, RTÉ One

Tonight’s programme from University College Cork will focus on the most up-to-date developments in Dairy Science and Food.  Renowned for its world-class Food Research and Education programme, Nationwide looks at over 90 years of Dairy Science at UCC.  The team talk to some students who are involved in Food Research and Development and discuss the challenges facing the food industry from Brexit. The programme also visits a graduate of UCC who has used her education in Food Science to develop a business selling dairy products. And finally, Nationwide visits Teagasc in Fermoy who are working with UCC to deliver a new Ag. Science degree in the Autumn.

Friday 29th March, 7.00pm, RTÉ One.

Tonight Nationwide looks at a variety of subjects from around the country.

Reaching the age of 100 years is quite an achievement and for one Galway centenarian it is a huge milestone.  Former Army officer, Lt. Col. Ned Cusack recently celebrated a life that spans the history books of this country and he is fit, well and full of memories.  Reporter Mary Fanning travels to Co. Galway to meet him and find out more about his life.

When you think about art activities for children, usually painting or drawing comes to mind. But sewing is not just a valuable life skill to have, it’s also a way of expressing an artistic talent. Valerie Waters goes to Rathangan, Co. Kildare to meet a designer who is passionate about helping children to sew creatively.

Finally Nationwide travels to Cork City to the Blankets of Hope project.  Run by the Cork Cancer Care centre, volunteers have knitted over 15,000 blankets for people undergoing chemotherapy.  Jennie O’Sullivan meets the volunteers and finds out all about this wonderful initiative.
