Monday 21st January, 7.00pm, RTÉ One

Tonight, Nationwide travels to Scurlogstown near Trim in County Meath where the local community are very proud of their heritage.  Reporter Valerie Waters goes to meet some of the hard working people there who host a festival every year to celebrate the old ways of bygone days.

Nationwide visits the vibrant community of Newtown, Clarina in County Limerick which has come together to restore and revitalise a local crossroads, as a way of bringing the rich history and heritage of the area back to life.

With winter being a great time to plan next season’s tidy towns campaign, reporter Niall Martin finds out what groups can do to gain valuable extra points when the judges arrive into their town or village.

 

Wednesday 23rd January, 7.00pm, RTÉ One

Nationwide visits the Showcase Trade Exhibition at the RDS and talks to some of the craft exhibitors to see what the show means to their business. The team also chat to buyers, both local and international, who buy the best of Irish craft at the exhibition.   Presenter Mary Kennedy visits Jerpoint Glass in County Kilkenny to try her hand at glass making and she also attends the Brown Thomas design exhibition to meet the top Irish fashion designers.

 

Friday 25th January, 7.00pm, RTÉ One

Tonight’s Nationwide focuses on Irish craft.

Reporter Valerie Waters meets a young woman who has experienced tragedy and loss in life but now has moved on to a new happy chapter in her story.  She visits the home and workplace of the artist who has settled in Dublin and who has set up a business which has led to a new network of very talented friends.

The Fays from the Carpentry Store in Naas, County Kildare are now in their seventh generation following a tradition in wood that has seen them adapt to and overcome the recession.  They have turned their business into a combination of supplying the largest selection of tools and equipment in the country to also offering courses in wood turning, crafting everything from banjos to rocking horses, that has attracted a pupil base from all over Ireland.  Reporter Mary Fanning pays them a visit.

Also in the programme, Nationwide heads to County Galway to meet the two ladies who are behind the Tweed Project.  Maria Mullarkey visits them at their studio to find out how their “passion project” has turned into a serious business.
