St Werburgh’s Church

A vibrant and surprising history of Dublin can be told by visiting one elegant building almost hidden in the city’s heart. St. Werburgh’s Church has stood its ground since Norman times and it offers us a glimpse into the colourful, often dangerous past. Regan Hutchins takes a close look at the building and its treasures as he revisits a Dublin of squalor, of kings and of revolutionaries. Plaques, pews, the organ, a long lost spire and the crypt, where few ever go, are all links to a vanished world that reminds us how much of the new is built on the old.

A Regan Hutchins production for RTÉ lyric fm, funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland from the Television Licence Fee.  (First broadcast Friday 1st January 2016)
