Wednesday 2nd January, 7.00pm, RTÉ One.

International runner Derval O’Rourke has known success representing Ireland all around the world.  Now retired from athletics she has been keeping busy publishing cookery books and taking part in TV shows like Ireland’s Fittest Family.  She lives in Crosshaven in Co. Cork and recently she set up a new website.  Presenter Mary Kennedy visits her at her home to find out about her life and times in County Cork.

How many teenagers know for certain what they want to do with their lives?  For gifted Cork pianist Kevin Jansson it’s a no- brainer –  this 18 year old has already played in Carnegie Hall and won piano competitions at home and abroad.  A recipient of a Cork Person of the Month award in recognition of his musical talents,  Kevin has been described as one of the finest musicians of his generation.  Helen McInerney meets him to find out more.

Thirty-five years on since the famine that devastated Ethiopia, Nationwide returns there to find a country transformed and prosperous.  The team meet an Irish nurse, who was to the forefront of the aid mission during the famine, as she is re-united with some of the local people whom she helped save from starvation.
