The video for Old Town, which sees Phil Lynott in his prime prowling through iconic Dublin city landmarks, is one of the most fondly remembered Irish pop videos of all time. The images of Phil on the Ha’Penny Bridge, barrelling up Grafton Street, sitting in the Long Hall and playing trumpet on the bandstand in Herbert Park are as much a part of Dublin iconography as the Molly Malone statue, Stephen’s Green or the Spire. When we think of a music video shot in Dublin, Old Town is the standard-bearer to which other videos are compared. It has everything. An iconic and charismatic leading man, a love interest, a story of heartbreak and intrigue and picturesque locations. The story of how the video came about and the part it played in Lynott’s career is explored in this documentary with the people who recorded the song and shot the video.

This is the definitive behind the scenes story of the creation of Old Town.

This documentary features exclusive interviews with all of those involved in the making of the Old Town single and video as well as revisiting the locations where it was shot – interviewees include Phil’s mother Philomena, his Thin Lizzy band mate Eric Bell, his old friends – musician Brush Sheils and ex-Boomtown Rats’ manager Fachtna Ó Ceallaigh – broadcaster Aonghus McAnally, director Gerry Gregg and fellow musicians Jim Lockhart (Horslips), Fiachna Ó Braonáin (Hothouse Flowers), Colm Ó Snodaigh (Kíla), Fiachra Trench & Alison O’Donnell (Mellow Candle).

Featuring archive footage of many Lizzy classics as well as rarely seen interviews with Phil, himself.  Phil Lynott – Scéalta ón Old Town also crucially relives every frame of that iconic video.
