Beidh an clár á chraoladh beo ó Uimhir 6 Sráid Fhearchair i mBaile Átha Cliath inniu, le comóradh a dhéanamh ar Olltoghchán 1918, olltoghchán cinniúnach i stair na tíre. Cé gur seo Ceanncheathrú Chonradh na Gaeilge anois, ag an tráth sin ba é ceanncheathrú Shinn Féin é. Is ann a eagraíodh feachtas toghchánaíochta an pháirtí i 1918, agus is ann a beartaíodh Dáil Éireann a ghairm go luath i 1919. Is ann, de réir chuntas Sheán T Uí Cheallaigh, a roghnaíodh an t-ainm Dáil Éireann, agus is ann a rinneadh cuid mhaith de na socraithe don chéad chruinniú den chéad Dáil. Is í Máirín Ní Ghadhra a chuirfidh an clár i láthair inniu.
The programme will be broadcast live from 6 Harcourt Street in Dublin city centre today, to commemorate the General Election of 1918 which marked a key moment in the history of the state. The building is now the headquarters of Conradh na Gaeilge, but prior to that it was the HQ for Sinn Féin. It was there that the party’s election strategy for 1918 was conceived, and it was there that it was decided to convoke a parliament in Dublin and call it Dáil Éireann. Many of the arrangements for the first meeting of Dáil Éireann were made in the building, and so it is a fitting venue for the commemorative programme today. Máirín Ní Ghadhra presents.
