BERNARD DUNNE’S MYTHICAL HEROES – Series 2 

Series Overview

Our history is filled with wondrous tales of mystical characters, heroic deeds and great battles.

The tales of Cú Chulainn, Fionn MacCumhaill, the Bull of Cooley, the fall of the Red Branch Knights and Diarmuid & Gráinne have been passed from generation to generation.

Each episode features one story as Bernard takes on the role of storyteller using a combination of documentary footage, live action reconstructions and stunning animation to re-create these compelling and dramatic tales.

In a world where children are captivated by superheroes of all shapes, sizes and skills – this series shows our audience how Irish superheroes were an original of their kind.

Episode 4: ‘The Wooing of Emer’

Monday 10th December at 5.05 PM on RTÉ2

The episode tells the story Cú Chulainn and how he falls in love with Emer despite the feelings of her father Forgall. When Cú Chulainn is forced to travel to Scotland and risk his life training with a great warrior, Forgall promises Emer to another man but Cú Chulainn returns to Ireland seeking vengeance and the hand of Emer.

Episode 5: ‘The Kidnap of Fionn’s Hounds’

Wednesday 12th December at 5.05 PM on RTÉ2

The Fianna were renowned warriors who hunted on foot and used hounds to trap their prey. When the King of Britain’s son Arthyr stole Fionn’s hounds, Fionn and his men travelled to Britain and defeating Arthyr. The hounds were handed back along with two fine horses who provided the bloodlines for all the future horses of the Fianna.

Episode 6: ‘Diarmuid & Gráinne’

Friday 14th December at  5.05 PM on RTÉ2

In this episode, Bernard retells the story of the classic tale of Diarmuid & Gráinne, how they fell in love and were then forced to flee her father, King Cormac Mac Airt who had promised her hand in marriage to the leader of the Fianna, Fionn MacCumhaill.
