Episode 2

Chef Catherine Fulvio makes a visit to Anders Lilja in Stockholm where she will learn how to make Jansson’s temptation, meatballs with potato purée, brown sauce, lingonberry jelly & pickled cucumbers.  When she returns to Ireland she visits with Ander’s daughter Marie and her husband Jason Walsh who live in the stunning Gap of Dunloe in Killarney. Marie moved from Sweden over nine years ago and still misses all the tasteful delights of Swedish food. Catherine in turn, shows Maria and Jason how to create an Irish Smörgåsbord with Smoked Salmon, Prawn Toast, Beetroot Apple salad, Sweet and Sour Vegetables.

During the second installment of Tastes Like Home, viewers will be treated to an array of colour and culture as Catherine Fulvio travels to Stockholm where she takes a tour of a Jumbo Jet that has been converted into a hotel, “The Jumbo Stay Hotel”, she visits the Vasa Museum and learns all about Sweden’s maritime history, followed by a tour on a bus that drives on land and on water “The Ocean Bus” which tours many of the city’s best attractions. Catherine also gets to see the world’s longest art exhibit at 110 kilometers in Stockholm’s most colourful subway stations, on the Skyview gondola Anders shows Catherine a panoramic view of the City before taking her on a food tour to taste some of the best local cuisine.

Catherine said of her time in Stockholm, “A stunning city with fabulous modern art for the public to enjoy, in particular the art in the subway.  With over 90 subway stations in Stockholm having been decorated with sculptures, mosaics, paintings, engravings and reliefs. Whilst in Stockholm I learned that at midsummer (when I visited) it’s traditional to throw back some (a lot) of aquavit (schnapps) with herring! Then break into song which I must admit I left that to the locals. I also had the pleasure of tasting reindeer, bear and moose, all very unique experiences.”

Food lovers will enjoy watching the food tour that Catherine experiences which is a guided culinary promenade between carefully selected restaurants, bars, cafes and / or specialty stores. At the stops Catherine samples delicious food whilst enjoying stories from enthusiastic bakers and chefs with a true passion for flavours and high quality ingredients. The walk was seasoned with anecdotes from some of the exciting places we walked by.

Jason Walsh was delighted to be a part of the show commenting, “as a family we love our food and fancy ourselves as foodies ! It is an integral part of every holiday and I cook 99 % of our food so I am always thinking about a new meal or inspiration from somewhere. The food was great and the whole experience was so interesting and really enjoyable.

Whilst in Stockholm, Anders Lilja found the experience a joy, saying, “It was so much fun to take part in the show and being a part of the process of filming was so interesting and I enjoyed cooking with Catherine in my home. I would recommend other people to take part because everything went so smoothly and the team were so professional and easy going. On the whole I think it was great fun and so did my guests for the evening.”

Series Overview

Six incredible cities, twelve emotive families and food cooked with a passion is the recipe for this year’s third season of Tastes Like Home with Catherine Fulvio. The six part series returns on Monday 5th November, promising a serving of delicious recipes steeped in tradition and a flavour of incredible culture and sights from locations right across the world.

Hosted by well-loved Chef Catherine Fulvio, the Tastes Like Home team travelled down under to New Zealand and Australia, as well as closer to home by going across Europe to Sweden, Cyprus and Gran Canaria, to capture six (6 episodes) individual stories, from people who refuse to let the physical distance from home curb their appetite for a home-cooked meal, a taste of home.

As well as re-creating familiar, hearty recipes for loved ones living abroad, the show introduces a series of national dishes and traditional favourites from right across the globe, from the flat white coffee claimed by the Kiwis, to the sweet potato Kumaras found in Maori cooking or the smoky flavours of the traditional ‘Kleftiko’ cooked in a clay oven and traditionally served at Cypriot weddings.

“Highlights from this year’s show include the taste of reindeer, bear and moose in Stockholm, learning about “wrinkly potatoes” in Gran Canaria as well as eating in one of the highest regarded restaurants in the whole world in Melbourne,” commented presenter Catherine Fulvio.

Apart from the buffet of culinary delights, viewers will also receive a flavour of the culture of many of the contestants’ foreign homes and the traditions of their friends and families.

“This series features a really great variety of stories. Viewers will learn about the culture of growing up in a Maori community, see a welcome Haka performed in New Zealand, and get a sense of the hustle and bustle of the second biggest fish market in the world in Sydney, as well as seeing the beauty of Stockholm and their subway art”, continued Catherine.

Series sponsored by Londis.
