This weekend marks the 535th birthday of Martin Luther, and the undeniable influence of the theologian’s work is felt across centuries of music. On Vox Nostra, Vlad’s unwavering dedication to recordings by excellent ensembles brings out a wonderful CD by Concerto Melante, an ensemble made up of leading players from the Berlin Philharmonic that perform early repertoire in a historically informed style. ‘En Feste Burg ist unser Gott’ is a CD full of Telemann’s cantatas that set Luther’s text, including the most famous of his hymns, and which lends the title to the recording. Plus, Vlad continues to bring on the new releases with a 2018 Hyperion release by the Choir of Westminster Abbey under James O’Donnell, all with music by 16th century English composer Nicholas Ludford.
