Episode 3

The third episode of the series returns to the deserted tannery in Portlaw to complete round two of the competition. From here we see our remaining six families compete for four precious quarterfinal places.

Tonight it’s Donncha and Anna’s three families who take on the tyre challenge and fire truck pull respectively. The family who complete the challenges fastest go straight through to the quarterfinals while the others must do battle in the eliminator to earn their place on their coaches’ team.

Anna’s families are the Finnegan Hogans from Cork, the Coneys from Tyrone and the McDonnells from Mayo. Anna knows going in to the round that all three of her families are strong but she will loose one of them. She is training them hard and ensuring they are ready for the competition ahead in the fire truck pull.

Donncha by contrast wants to see his families have fun in the build up to the tyre challenge. He feels it’s important for the competitive edge to only kick in when the hooter goes. Going head to head on Donncha’s team are the Lallys from Dublin, the Lawlors from Limerick and the Furlongs from Donegal.

With really tight time trials and even closer eliminators this episode throws up some surprise results for both coaches and families. Only the best make it through and only the fittest get to compete again in next week’s quarterfinals in Hell and Back in Co. Wicklow.
