L’Arpeggiata Music For a While – Improvisations on Purcell
In 2000, lutenist Christina Pluhar founded her ensemble L’Arpeggiata. Initially dedicated to recreating the freshness of the improvised music of the 17th century, they have since combined early music with a range of traditional styles from across Europe and beyond. This week the Blue of the Night puts another of their innovative recordings, Music For a While – Improvisations on Purcell, under the spotlight. Baroque music often has elements of improvisation but here L’Arpeggiata take that much further. There are many moments when you might think you are in a late night jazz club rather than an ancient concert hall!
