In 2000, lutenist Christina Pluhar founded her ensemble L’Arpeggiata. Initially dedicated to recreating the freshness of the improvised music of the 17th century, they have since combined early music with a range of traditional styles from across Europe and beyond. This week the Blue of the Night puts Mediterraneo, one of their most innovative recordings under the spotlight. The album takes us on a musical voyage through the Mediterranean Sea from Portugal to Turkey, following the coasts of Spain, Catalonia, Greece, and Italy.
