Louis Thomas Hardin AKA Moondog was a permanent fixture in Sixties Manhattan, a blind poet, artist and composer, who stood every day at the corner of 54th and sixth playing homemade instruments and reciting his own works. Admirers included Stravinsky, Janis Joplin and Charlie Parker, to whom Hardin dedicated his Bird’s Lament. Tonight we hear part of a new project from pianist Katia Labeque, rearrangements performed with the group Triple Sun simply called ‘Moondog’. We’ll also take a listen to Harpsichord Concertos by JS Bach, transcribed for mandolin and performed by Davide Ferella.
