Episode 10 – Woodlands & spring bulbs

Wintry woodlands begin the annual eruption of wildflowers in April, with bluebells, wood anemone, primroses and wild garlic.  Many spring flowers store their energy in bulbs so that they have a head start in flowering before the tree canopy closes overhead from May.  Wild bulbs are a welcome food source for badgers and wood mice, especially as early spring lacks fruits, nuts and seeds which at other times of year sustain the woodland web of life.  This show will explore the dynamics of the woodland floor in early spring.
