Series 2, Episode 3

Programme three:

Neven’s  Irish Food Trails third episode starts in Co Meath at the McCormack Family Farm where he discovers how microgreens are grown. Neven explores the flavoursome, nutritious varieties of Irish microgreens – much more than just garnish, they are important ingredients for chefs.
Next, he heads  to Dublin and Pickle Indian Restaurant. It’s a special day at Pickle, where the kitchen team is preparing a menu for Diwali ,the Hindu festival of lights. Diwali is a time when sweet foods are eaten and Head Chef Sunil Ghai shows Neven how to cook delicious Gulab Jamen: deep fried milk dumplings soaked in Saffron and Rose Syrup.

Staying in Dublin Neven visits Jack Kirwan, founder of Sprout and Co. an innovative restaurant chain specialising in healthy salads made with seasonal Irish produce. Jack tells Neven how Sprout and Co. became so successful, helping to sate Dublin’s appetite for wholesome food.

Moving on to Co. Wicklow, it’s time for the Diwali celebrations to begin, so  Neven joins Sunil Ghai and his family at home for their traditional Diwali rituals and an incredible Indian banquet.
Finally, at home in Co. Cavan Neven shares his own Indian style recipe: Aubergine and potato dhansak with spiced pilau and sizzling oil.
