Episode 2 of 4 – Tanzania

“They shoot elephants don’t they”

Peadar King investigates the tense and complex relationship between the much loved African elephant and the under-pressure  farmers and Maasai pastoralists of Tanzania.

In it he talks to Maasai advocate and pastoralist Alais Morindat  and farmer Sinyati Lazaro whose land and livelihood have been trampled on by what she regards as the the policy of privileging elephant welfare over human well being. He talks too to Olais Olekoin, who believes that wildlife-based tourism brings real gains to the impoverished people off Tanzania. Not everyone agrees.
