A Chorus of Approval 2

One of opera’s special qualities is its ability to give collective voice to multitudes of people by means of the chorus. Ian Fox traces the colourful history of the chorus in opera, from its earliest days with Monteverdi at the start of the 17th century, to the present day. In this programme he introduces works written in English, from early scores by Blow and Purcell, through Balfe, Sullivan and Delius and on to the modern creations of Britten, Bernstein and Adams.
