A Chorus of Approval 1
One of opera’s special qualities is its ability to give collective voice to multitudes of people by means of the chorus. Ian Fox traces the colourful history of the chorus in opera, from its earliest days with Monteverdi at the start of the 17th century, to the present day. In this programme he explores opera in Germany and the key role that the chorus has played in works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven Weber and Wagner.
