Celebrity Home of the Year, RTÉ One, January 2nd, at 9.35pm

RTÉ’s Celebrity Home of the Year returns to our screens this year with five familiar faces on board, as Irish celebrities open their doors to the nation in a bid to win a cash prize for their chosen charity.

This one off special features five celebrities -retired Leinster and Ireland rugby player Mike Ross, TV and radio presenter Eoghan Mc Dermott, writer Melissa Hill, broadcaster Lorraine Keane and Senator David Norris.

The show features a broad range of spectacular homes- including a former gate lodge, a period home, a semi detached and a re-imagined bungalow. One thing all our celebrities have in common is a love for their home, their design skills, and a passionate connection to their home. Each celebrity throws open the door of their homes to the judges, revealing more about their personality, style, and how their homes reflect their lives.

But while they may have stunning homes, they won’t have an easy ride, with our three expert judges casting a critical eye over the homes. Design legend Hugh Wallace and renowned interior designer Deirdre Whelan are joined this year by new judge, award winning architect Patrick Bradley. Patrick gained attention when his shipping container home appeared on Channel 4’s Grand Designs. His home has gone on to win several awards and has appeared in newspaper articles all over the world. Looking for individuality, functionality and clever design, the judges will be pulling no punches as they critique the homes.

With judges individually scoring each home out of ten, the home with the highest combined score will be crowned the winner. As well as being crowned Celebrity Home of the Year, the winner will receive a €5,000 prize to donate to their chosen charity.

Celebrity Biographies – PICS OF THE HOMES FEATURED ARE AVAILABLE ON REQUEST TO gareth.naughton@rte.ie

Eoghan McDermott

Radio and TV personality Eoghan McDermott moved into his first home in south Dublin in 2017. It took two and a half years to find the perfect home and he shares the property with his girlfriend Aoife. Eoghan says Aoife has made the house a home. The home is over three storeys and he has decorated it to add his own stamp. Eoghan is very proud to own his own home and very proud of the TV unit that he designed. He also loves his walk in wardrobe and enjoys entertaining family and friends at home.

Lorraine Keane

Broadcaster Lorraine Keane bought her period home 13 years ago when it was divided into flats. Lorraine was pregnant at the time and the home needed to be gutted. Lorraine renovated previous homes over the years and has a keen interest in interior design.  Lorraine and her husband Peter Devin restored the original features in the home and she says the renovation has been an ongoing process. Her furniture is a mix of old and new with furniture passed down from family. Lorraine lives with her husband Peter, two daughters and her two dogs in south county Dublin.

Melissa Hill

Melissa Hill lives in a reconfigured bungalow in County Wicklow. She lives with her husband who is also a writer, Kevin, and their daughter. Melissa bought her home over 18 years ago and extended 2 years ago. Both Melissa and Kevin work from home and wanted to create spaces that are airy and bright. Melissa is an international number one bestselling author – her books have been translated into 25 different languages.  A TV adaptation of ‘A Gift to Remember’ was released as a Hallmark movie in November 2017. Her book ‘Something from Tiffany’s’ is currently in development with a major Hollywood studio. Melissa also co-writes forensic thrillers with her husband Kevin under the pen-name Casey Hill. Melissa collects model flamingos and these can be found throughout her home.

David Norris

Senator David Norris lives in a period Georgian home in the heart of Dublin city centre. He bought his home almost 40 years ago and restoring the home has been an ongoing process.  When David bought the four-storey-over-basement terraced house it was full of tenants. David has restored the rooms to their original state and has added his own personal touches too including a mural on the wall going up the stairs. The rooms are decorated in period colours of green and red. The furniture is all in keeping with the period and his home is full of family heirlooms and David uses every part of the house.

Mike Ross

Former Leinster and Ireland Rugby player Mike Ross lives with his wife Kimberlee and two children in an extended gate lodge in Dublin. They gutted and refurbished their home before they moved into it in 2014. Their home is filled with treasured furniture and vintage finds.  Originally from Connecticut, Kimberlee who did the interior design says her home has New England influences. Mike has his own projector room and when they moved in they reconfigured the layout of the home.
