The Late Late Toy Show, RTÉ One,  December 1st at 9.35pm

The Late Late Toy Show kicks off the Christmas season this year with a spectacular show featuring a cast of hundreds of children bringing viewers a night of music, dance and general mayhem. At the centre of it all will be your host for the night, Ryan Tubridy who ditches the suit and tie for the most garish Christmas jumper he can find as he helms the biggest show on Irish television for the ninth time.

As always, the theme of this year’s Toy Show remains top secret until the morning of broadcast but Ryan and his elves have something very special in store for viewers this year.

The Late Late Toy Show producer Nigel Power said: “We have scoured the country looking for the best and brightest young performers to take part in this year’s show and we are quietly confident that we’ve got something truly memorable for viewers this year. The Toy Show is a unique and very Irish experience – a family favourite that brings the nation together for one night of entirely unpredictable telly.”

It is, of course, the children who are the real stars of the show and this year hundreds from all over the island will take part. They will be singing, dancing and entertaining their way into the hearts of the nation. Past performers on the Toy Show include Imelda May, The Strypes and Angeline Ball and some of the most memorable moments in the programme’s history have happened when Ryan is chatting to a toy demonstrator. Will this year’s cohort be able to top last year’s Hit the Diff country medley or win hearts like little Alex describing how fairies would take all his troubles away when he placed his hand on the worry plaque?

Last year’s Jungle Book themed Late Late Toy Show roared its way to a total consolidated* audience of 1.57 million people, making it the second most watched programme on Irish television this century.
