LINE OF DUTY

SEASON 3 SERIES SYNOPSIS

In the pursuit of corruption, how far will they go to uncover the truth?

Now the hit police thriller is back with a brand new investigation in this much-anticipated third season of Line of Duty, taking another probing look at modern policing and corruption within the force.

Daniel Mays (Common, Public Enemies) plays Sergeant Danny Waldron, the highly proficient leader of an Armed Response Unit whose unpredictable behaviour is becoming a threat to colleagues and suspects. When AC-12 are called in to investigate Danny’s conduct, even they could find themselves in the firing line. The third season of Line of Duty is written by Jed Mercurio and produced by World Productions for BBC Two. Mays joins returning cast Martin Compston (Sweet Sixteen) as DS Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure (This is England) as DC Kate Fleming and Adrian Dunbar (Ashes to Ashes) as Superintendent Ted Hastings.

EPISODE 1 – 9pm

Logline: Police anti-corruption unit AC12 return for another thrilling investigation. Sergeant Danny Waldron (Daniel Mays) and his armed response team shoot dead a hardened criminal, but soon cracks appear in their story. What are they hiding?

Synopsis: The series opens with the fatal shooting of a criminal suspect by an armed response unit led by Sergeant Danny Waldron (Daniel Mays).

Danny and his team claim they acted in self-defence, but AC12, led by Supt Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), gather evidence that suggests that this was a deliberate killing. Under interview, Danny confidently rebuts all of AC12’s accusations that he acted unlawfully, so DC Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) is sent undercover into Danny’s team to find out more.

Ingratiating herself to her new colleagues, Kate is quick to identify tensions and conflict between Danny and his team. But when Kate’s own conduct comes under scrutiny, she finds herself sidelined from an armed drugs raid that goes very badly wrong.

EPISODE 2 – 10.10pm

Logline: After the shooting at the drugs house, DC Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) uses her undercover role to increase the pressure on Danny Waldron’s armed response unit. Meanwhile an old AC12 investigation comes under legal scrutiny.

Synopsis: The shooting at the drugs house intensifies the scrutiny on Danny’s team, who once again close ranks. But with DC Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) on the inside, AC12 feed in new information that helps her expose cracks in the team’s story, but with tragic consequences.

DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) looks deeper into Danny Waldron’s background and makes a shocking discovery: Danny not only knew the victim he shot, but the victim also had connections to Tommy Hunter, the protected witness who first identified the corrupt police officer known as ‘The Caddy’.

DS Arnott’s life is complicated by an investigation into his past conduct as an undercover officer, but determined to vindicate himself, Steve prioritises his leads into the Danny Waldron case.

The increasing pressure on Danny’s team finally pushes Danny’s colleague Rod (Will Mellor) to the edge.
