‘Feats of Modest Valour’ intimately follows three people with Parkinson’s Disease, all longing for a remedy. Meanwhile in Galway, Dr Eilís Dowd and her team of scientists are developing a new medical device which could potentially cure the devastating disease. The film includes renowned Irish actor Tom Hickey who played Benji in The Riordans and who was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Abbey Theatre. Woven together with observation and animation, ‘Feats of Modest Valour’ invites you to witness the story of groundbreaking medical science and offers a contemplation of life and mortality.

Tom, Milena and Brian live clockwork existences, dictated by a strict regime of medication and the challenging physical reality of living with Parkinson’s disease. Meanwhile, Éilís and her team of scientists are developing a new medical device, which could potentially cure the devastating disease. Woven together with observation and animation, this short documentary invites you to witness the story of groundbreaking medical science and offers a contemplation of life and mortality.

 

‘Feats of Modest Valour’ won the prestigious Scientist Award at the Imagine Science Film Festival 2017 in New York. The Scientist Award is awarded by the leading international science journal, Science, and its publisher, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The select jury included Nobel prize-winning scientist, Professor Martin Chalfe, and award-winning science columnist for the New York Times, Professor Carl Zimmer.
