Wonder What? Series 2 starting on RTÉjr on July 10th

A new series of RTÉjr Wonder What? starts on July 10th. The first series visited the factories and workshops of Ireland to tell the stories of how everyday things are made. This new series now includes stories of how things work .

For this series the producers got access to Shannon Airport to follow our baggage from check-in to landing. We’re in the driver’s cab on the train and under the Thomas Clarke Bridge in Dublin to show how some bridges are engineered to lift up to allow boats pass under.

Machines are the star of the show in this series. There’s plenty of them on display in our visit to the biggest sawmill plant in the Republic of Ireland. There’s also a lot of clever machines at work in the candle-making factory and at the Concrete Plant. Usually, we go to the circus to see a great show but Wonder What? visits early to get the behind the scenes story of they put up the huge circus tent!

Nowadays young viewers may be more familiar with tablets than newspapers, but they’ll find the process of how a newspaper is printed fascinating. Another visual treat is the trip to Dublin port to see just how all those containers are moved around – there’s a lot of cranes involved!
