Monday 10th July, 7.00pm on RTÉ One

It’s that time of year when gardens all over the country are looking their best and the countryside is a riot of color with an abundance of wonderful flowers in full bloom. Nationwide goes to Ardee in County Louth where a very special floral event –  the AOIFA National Flower Festival – is taking place with flower arrangers from all over Ireland displaying their work for all to see.  The programme meets some of the flower arrangers who came from near and far and see some of their beautiful floral arrangements.

Nationwide travels to West Cork to meet a family who are dedicated to growing flowers, some of which are of the edible variety.  Reporter Maria Mullarkey has the story.

All the participants at the AOIFA National Flower Festival have one thing in common, and that is, great attention to detail and a love of flowers.  Reporter Valerie Waters visits one of the entrants at his home work space in Glasnevin in Dublin.

Wednesday 12th July, 7.00pm on RTÉ One

Nationwide visits Balbriggan in North County Dublin, situated on the east coast.   Balbriggan was a fishing village until the arrival of the railway in 1840 and then it became an industrial town.  The programme visits the impressive Bremore Castle which is currently undergoing massive refurbishment undertaken by Fingal Co. Council.  The team pops into the local Mens Shed and hear the story of Adirondack Chairs and we hear about the Shopfront Improvement scheme run by the local Chamber of Commerce which aims to improve the appearance of buildings in the town.  Plus the programme takes a trip to Ardgillan Castle and Demense, one of Ireland’s hidden gems set in spectacular parklands.

A very well-known sportsman from Balbriggan is Dublin Goal keeper John O’Leary. Presenter Anne Cassin meets up with him  for a ramble around the town.

Friday 14th July, 7.00pm on RTÉ One

Nationwide visits one of Dublin’s most exciting areas, the Docklands, an area which was rejuvenated in the 1980s with thousands of residents from all over the world and also that is home to technology leaders like Facebook and leading financial services institutions.   On tonight’s programme, the team meet some of the people that live and work in this thriving and vibrant district in Dublin City and visit an auctioneer for a tour of a penthouse apartment in Spencer Dock.

Over the last twenty years the Docklands area in Dublin has been transformed with international companies like Google and Facebook locating their Dublin base there. But people have always been at the heart of the docklands with new families and individuals like Rajiv Balumuri joining the existing community who now come to live and work in the docklands. Nationwide visits Rajiv to find out more.

There are many people living in modern apartments in Dublin’s Docklands.  One such person is a woman who plays the piano for a living and has lived in this neighbourhood for the last decade. Reporter Valerie Waters visits this classical musician and gets a little glimpse of her lovely life by the Liffey.
