Comprehensive Coverage on RTÉ of UK General Election 2017 Results

RTÉ will present comprehensive coverage of the UK General Election 2017 results on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th June across television, radio, online and mobile.

RTÉ’s London Correspondent Fiona Mitchell will be reporting live from the UK capital with RTÉ’s Northern Editor Tommie Gorman reporting on the overall impact of results across Northern Ireland.

Online and mobile coverage will run on rte.ie/news and on the RTÉ News Now app from the opening of boxes right through the night to the completion of every count. RTÉ.ie will run a live tracker/blog covering every detail as the count unfolds with the latest results, analysis, tweets and opinions on Westminster Elections 2017.

Live coverage on the RTÉ News Now channel (available on all TV platforms and on the RTÉ News Now App) will have a rolling results service, and breaking news developments as well as carrying coverage of the key RTÉ Election programmes.

 

Thursday June 8th

 On UK Polling Day, Thursday 8th June, Cathal MacCoille will co-present Morning Ireland live from London on RTÉ Radio 1 while Drivetime will have regular updates on voter turn-out, plus full coverage of polling day events. That evening RTÉ One’s Six One News will have the latest developments as Bryan Dobson co-presents the programme from outside the Houses of Parliament in central London.

As polls close at 10.00pm on Thursday night and the count begins, Prime Time on RTÉ One and RTÉ News Now will report live on the UK Election 2017 exit polls as the data becomes available.

On RTÉ Radio 1 at 10.00pm, Late Debate presented by Cormac Ó hEadhra will have a special extended programme until late live from Belfast, with Philip Boucher-Hayes reporting from Westminster. There will be RTÉ reporters in all seven of the count centres in Northern Ireland, covering results from the 18 constituencies as they happen. Through the night there will be news and updates as well as analysis and commentary.

Beginning at 11.25pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ News Now, and continuing on-air until 4.00am the following morning, there will be live television results coverage on UK Election 2017. Presenter Miriam O’Callaghan will be joined by guests at the count centre in the Belfast Titanic Exhibition Centre, while Bryan Dobson will be presenting coverage of the results from England, Scotland and Wales from London, with David McCullagh live from the main television news studio in RTÉ in Dublin. The programme will provide coverage of breaking results across Northern Ireland, updates on the wider UK results, interviews, discussion and analysis.

 

Friday June 9th

 On Friday 9th June, Cathal MacCoille in London, Rachael English in Belfast and Audrey Carville in Dublin will present an extended Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio 1 (beginning at the earlier time of6.00am).

RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will be broadcasting live from Belfast from 7.00am with an extended edition of current affairs programme Admhaidin.  Analysts on the show will include Póilín Ní Chiaráin, Ian Malcolm and Eoghan Ó Néill, and there will be reports from London, Scotland and Wales.

Aine Lawlor will present an RTÉ News hour-long special television programme, UK Election 2017,on Friday morning from 9.00am on RTÉ One and RTÉ News Now. The programme will feature details of all the results that have happened overnight, plus live coverage from Belfast and special reports from RTÉ reporter Conor Hunt in London.

Today with Sean O’Rourke on RTÉ Radio 1, will present comprehensive post-election coverage and analysis, as a new government is formed at Westminster.

At 1.30pm RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta election count programme Lá an Chomhairimh will be on the air, presented by Máirín Ní Ghadhra, with further reporting and analysis of the results.

Nuacht RTÉ/TG4  will also have have detailed election coverage on bulletins on RTÉ One, RTÉ News Now, TG4  and online; with Tomás Ó Mainín reporting from London, Eimear Ní Chonaola from Glasgow and Áine Ní Ghallchóir from Belfast.

On RTÉ Radio 1’s Drivetime there will be full coverage of the UK-wide results, with reporters Philip Boucher-Hayes in London and Barry Lenihan in Belfast.  Plus expert analysis of what the results mean for British politics – and for Ireland, as the Brexit negotiations get underway.

RTÉ One’s Six One News on Friday will be co-presented by Bryan Dobson in London with reports from London correspondent, Fiona Mitchell, and Northern Editor, Tommie Gorman.

On Saturday morning at 10.00am, with the full results in,  An tSeachtain le Máirín Ní Ghadhra will take a look at the implications of the results for the UK and Northern Ireland.

The @rtenews twitter account will be live tweeting the results and updates while subscribers will also be kept up-to-date with key moments via push notifications on the RTÉ News Now app. Updates will also run on @rteradio1 @rternag and @rte.
