VOX NOSTRA WITH VLAD SMISHKEWYCH

EW Image Name: EW

Baroque between the Alps and the Pyrenees is the tour description for this Sunday on Vox Nostra. Music from France, Italy, and Spain always shared styles and influences, whether in song, dance, chamber music or opera. It wasn’t until the later Baroque period that these national styles became more distinct, and on this week’s programme, Vlad pulls out the map of Southern Europe to trace the origins of these styles and explore how distinct they truly became. Composers including Locatelli, Peñalosa, and D’Angelbert give your ears a taste of the rich variety of the music behind the Romance (languages). Locatelli becomes the star of the show, however, with his Violin Sonata in D minor Op.6 No.12 as Vlad’s selection for this morning’s Sunday Sonata, featuring the stellar violin playing of Elizabeth Wallfisch.
